Vic, Arxiu i Biblioteca Episcopal, Ms. 128 C (XLVII C)

1v-45v, Sine Auctore - Institutio canonicorum Aquisgranensis a. 816

In this 10th-century copy, which has been taken out of the old Vic, Arxiu i Biblioteca episcopal, Ms. 128 in the 1960s, are inserted several folia from a 12th-century copy of the same text, i. e. fol. 1 sq. (old fol. 154 sq.), 35 sq. (old fol. 142 sq.), 38 sq. (old fol. 140 sq.) and 44 sq. (old fol. 144 sq.), which seem to be a high medieval restoration of the old copy (see especially the immediate continuation of the text between fol. 39v and 40r). The fol. 3–34 (old fol. 156–176, 130 sq., 146 sq., 150 sq., 132 sq., 138 sq. and 134), 37 (old fol. 139), 40–43 (old fol. 148, 137, 136 and 149) are the folia of the old copy. A reconstruction of the quire structure is only possible in combination with the transmitted text: Conserved bifolia are fol. 1 sq., 12 sq., 20 sq., 27 sq. and 33 sq. (in two single folia), and fol. 38–45 is a full quire. Here prologue and ch. 1–144, at the end mutilated: HÄNEL 1847, p. 92 no 43 (with the wrong date “sec. 12”); EWALD 1881, p. 340; BEER 1894, p. 549 no 553; WERMINGHOFF 1899, p. 482 (“s. XI.”; with the wrong shelfmark “Vich, Cath. 41”); WERMINGHOFF 1906, p. 311 no 69 (“saec. The manuscript is not mentioned by SCHIEFFER 1976. JULLIEN/PERELMAN 1994, p. 141 sq. and 231 mention no manuscripts. This manuscript appears to be the copy mentioned in the inventory of Bishop Guadamir of Vic in 957, June 14: „vita channonicha .I.”, Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 957 (1821), p. 274 l. 13; Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 957 (1980–1996), p. 256 l. 20; Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 957 (1999), p. 602 l. 13 sq.: VILLANUEVA 1821a, p. 69 and 145 (the text is not identified); BEER 1894, p. 24 and p. 543 sq. no 553 (the text is not identified); RIUS I SERRA 1926, p. 562; BAUER 1962, p. 91 sq.; JUNYENT I SUBIRÀ 1963, p. 139; DÍAZ Y DÍAZ 1969, p. 238 with n. 135; ORDEIG I MATA 1981, p. 114 sq.; PAGÈS I PARETAS/PLADEVALL I FONT 1984, p. 54; MUNDÓ I MARCET 1988, p. 104 with n. 46; JUNYENT I SUBIRÀ 1980–1996, p. 254–256 no 302; PUIG I FERRETÉ e. a. 1998, p. 146 no 813 and p. 170 no 813 (the text is not identified); GROS I PUJOL 1999b, p. 750; ZIMMERMANN 2003, 1, p. 594 sq.; ZIMMERMANN 2003, 2, p. 761 and 768; GROS I PUJOL 2006, p. 34 no 19; ALTURO I PERUCHO 2013, p. 86 n. 71; DE PUIG I OLIVER 2017–2019, p. 575 with n. 118; ALTURO I PERUCHO 2020a, p. 95; MASNOU I PRATDESABA 2022, p. 248 with n. 20; VONES-LIEBENSTEIN 2023a, p. 183 n. 55. A figure of the inventory of 957 is published by GROS I PUJOL 2006, p. 30 no 15; ALTURO I PERUCHO/ALAIX I GIMBERT 2020, p. 561 fig. 5. It is then also mentioned in the inventory after the dead of Bishop Ato of Vic in 971, August–September: “Vita Chanonicha I”, Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 971 (1912–1914), p. 153 l. 32; Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 971 (1980–1996), p. 347 l. 8 sq.; Inventarium ecclesiae Ausonensis a. 971 (1999), p. 803 l. 5: JUNYENT I SUBIRÀ 1963, p. 139; ORDEIG I MATA 1981, p. 114 sq.; PAGÈS I PARETAS/PLADEVALL I FONT 1984, p. 54; GROS I PUJOL 1999b, p. 753; ALTURO I PERUCHO 2003a, p. 97 sq.; ZIMMERMANN 2003, 1, p. 594 sq.; ZIMMERMANN 2003, 2, p. 761; GROS I PUJOL 2006, p. 31 no 16 (avec une figure de l’inventaire) and p. 34 no 19; DE PUIG I OLIVER 2017–2019, p. 575 with n. 118; VONES-LIEBENSTEIN 2023a, p. 183 n. 55. A terminus usque quem for this manuscript could be the introduction of the Aachen rule in Vic in 957 by Bishop Guadamir some days before his death.
