Here prologue – ch. 142, at the beginning (first three folia of the first quire) and at the end mutilated; inc.: “vocatione qua vocati sunt ...”; expl.: “... intra claustra canonicorum fieri ut qui suam forte”. The careless language and the 9th-century glosses showing partially Romance influence are indicators for the southern provenance of the manuscript. In several quires, folia are cut out without loss of text – this is a hint at a bad coordination of the copy work and perhaps an indicator for the quick production of manuscript under time pressure. Together with the many original holes in the parchment, this is an argument for a very early copy made perhaps even in Aachen 816 (?): JAECK 1831–1832, 1, p. 59 no 450 (“saec. I 13”); WERMINGHOFF 1902a, p. 638 with n. 1 (with the wrong shelfmark “P. I. 13”); WERMINGHOFF 1906, p. 310 no 5 (“saec. IX. [fragm.]”; with the wrong shelfmark “P. I 13”); SCHIEFFER 1976, p. 248 n. 102, p. 250 with n. 107, p. 251 with n. 114 and p. 257 with n. 146 (“9. Jh.”); HOFFMANN 1995, p. 124 (on the 11th- or early 12th-century entry with neums on fol. 152r; this entry could already stem from a Bamberg hand, which would be a hint at the preservation of the copy there at that time); MORDEK 1995a, p. 1046 (“9. Jh.”); BISCHOFF 1998, p. 46 no 202 (“Wahrscheinlich südliches Frankreich, IX. Jh., 1. Drittel“). JULLIEN/PERELMAN 1994, p. 141 sq. and 231 mention no manuscripts. Rudolf Schieffer and Hubert Mordek refer to the “Regula una canonicorum”, which is mentioned in an inventory of those manuscripts of the Cathedral library which were given to the master “G.” around 1100 for his private use (entry at the end of Bamberg, Staatsbibliothek, Msc. Class. 79 [olim E. III. 16], fol. 189v, ed. RUF 1939, p. 340 l. 31–34, here l. 33). This could have been our copy.
